The flame spread over the ground soaked with spilled liquid fuel has been studied experimentally, using diesel oil as the fuel and a bed of sand as the ground model. The flame propagation speed was experimently studied by varying parameters of the mass ratio between sand and diesel oil, the width of steel tray and the radiated heat. The surface temperature of the oil-soaked sand as the flame arrived and the highest surface temperature of the oil-soaked sand were measured. It was found that the flame propagation speed over the fuel-soaked ground decreased considerably compared with that over the liquid fuel pool surface, and the flame propagation speed was affected by all the experimental parameters. |
