| When fires occur in ridge terrains, their behavior is often difficult to predict. In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to investigate the flame morphology evolution after crossing a ridge and the heat flux distribution on the leeward slope under ambient wind conditions. The effects of wind speed, slope angle, and heat release rate were systematically analyzed. The results show that increasing wind speed promotes flame extension along the leeward slope and enhances flame attachment, whereas increasing slope angle weakens attachment. Under the present experimental scale, when θ ≥ 12.5°, the attachment state changes markedly and the flame largely detaches from the slope surface. Flame attachment is closely related to the heat flux distribution on the leeward slope, which exhibits three typical patterns: single-peak distribution (stable attachment), double-peak distribution (flame lift-off and reattachment), and monotonic decay (no significant attachment). Based on dimensional analysis, a power-law relationship between flame geometric parameters and a dimensionless air supply parameter was established, and a piecewise heat flux prediction model was further developed to quantify the dominant role of flame attachment in heat transfer. This study provides a theoretical reference for assessing and predicting fire spread risk in ridge terrains. |
