To investigate the effect of averaging pulsating wildfire heat flux on the assessment of annealing effects in aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR) conductors, a radial transient heat-transfer model was developed and validated. Based on the temperature-weighted cumulative equivalent annealing time, the equivalent annealing effects under pulsating and averaged heat fluxes were evaluated separately. Their ratio was defined as the equivalent annealing-effect ratio KA to quantify the effects of six parameters characterizing the heat flux and conductor properties. The results show that temperature fluctuations are mainly concentrated near the conductor surface and attenuate inward. The KA values exceed 1 for all valid cases, indicating that the averaged heat flux underestimates the equivalent annealing effect induced by the pulsating heat flux. KA increases with pulsation amplitude, peak heat flux, and surface emissivity, but decreases with pulsation frequency, exposure duration, and radial thermal conductivity. An empirical predictive correlation for KA was established using 68 valid single-factor cases and 45 valid cross-parameter cases. The correlation can be used to estimate the equivalent annealing-effect ratio for cases in which the conductor surface temperature remains below the aluminum melting point within the parameter ranges investigated in this study.
